ASVAB Score – What it Takes to Get You in the Military

Your ASVAB score serves as an entry ticket for the military. A poor ASVAB result can mean the end of your dream to become part of the world's most elite armed forces. Therefore, it is very important to be familiar with the components that determine your exposure.

ASVAB is not classified as a person's IQ test, the results of your ASVAB test do not determine how smart you are, but how well you are suitable for the military.

The most important part of your ASVAB test results is your results in four subjects: Word Knowledge (WK), Parallel Understanding (PC), Arithmetic Thinking (AR), and Mathematics Knowledge (MK).

These four results contribute to your Armed Forces Qualification Test (AFQT), which indicates whether you should be accepted into the military or not. Your results in other subtests serve as bonus points which are also used to identify your specific military position.

Different military organizations have different requirements for the minimum number of points for ASVAB or AFQT tests needed to enter military candidates. Requirements also differ in whether the applicant has completed secondary education or is a GED holder. 

For secondary school holders, the minimum AFQT test required is 36 for the U.S. Air Force, 31 for the Army, 40 for the Coast Guard, 32 for the Marines, and 31 for the Navy. If you are a GED holder, the minimum AFQT test score you need to achieve is 65 for the U.S. Air Force, 31 for the Army, 50 for the Coast Guard, Marines, and Navy.
