Health benefits and safety
One of the main areas that have been explored for intelligent home is related to improving health. Some smart IoT home products have been developed which aims to monitor the status of the environment in the house. These include, for example, monitoring the condition of the air in a number of categories – humidity, temperature, dust, CO2, etc.
Meanwhile, connecting the security system in the IoT has been making houses safer. One of the most popular ways this has been done is through the use of IoT enabled cameras in or around the home that allow image or video feed to be sent to the homeowner-occupants to be able to examine the situation when they leave or when they are in another part of the property. Often this type of device has several features integrated into them, such as IoT Sensors, voice detection, event-triggered video recording and so on.
Future developments
It is generally accepted that there are three generations of home automation development so far:
The first generation: wireless technology with a proxy server, such as Zigbee automation;
The second generation: artificial intelligence control electrical devices, such as Amazon Echo;
The third generation: robot buddy that interacts with humans, such as Rovio robot, the Roomba.
While the cutting edge of technology often gets the headlines, in many homes, there is still substantial progress to be made with the first and second generation of the system. It is often an entertainment-linked system that generates the media coverage, with a range of personal assistant – like Amazon Echo, Home Google, Sonos One, Apple HomePod and others – have been very popular.
